Privacy policy
max has no account of its own and shows no ads. What you build in it — your sources, favorites and where you stopped — is kept on your devices and in your own iCloud. The app sends usage counts and crash reports to Google Firebase under a random installation identifier, and never your stream addresses, passwords, titles you watch or anything you type.
This policy covers the max app for Apple TV, iPad, iPhone and Mac, and this website. max is a media player: it plays the sources you add and does not provide any content of its own.
What stays on your device
The channels, films, shows and guide max reads from each source, the pictures and details it fetches for them, downloaded films and episodes, your search history and your player preferences are kept on the device that made them. They are not sent to us or synced anywhere. Deleting max deletes them, and Settings › Storage clears the cached parts.
What syncs through iCloud
So that a source added on one device works on the others, max keeps the following in the iCloud key-value storage of your own Apple Account:
- Your sources, including the addresses, usernames, passwords and tokens needed to open them.
- Favorites and the order you put them in, and the groups you favorited or pinned.
- Where you stopped each film and episode, and a short history of what you played, including titles.
- Changes you made: renamed channels, chosen logos and saved filters.
This data is stored by Apple under your Apple Account. We cannot see it. Removing a source in max removes it from iCloud too, and you can turn off iCloud for max in your device’s settings.
Analytics and crash reports
max uses Google Firebase Analytics, in the edition without an advertising identifier, and Firebase Crashlytics. They receive:
- Which screens are opened, and counts and durations, such as how long playback ran or how many channels a source has.
- The kind of source (for example M3U or Xtream Codes), the kind of error when something fails, and the name of the server a stream came from — never the full address.
- Crash reports, with the device model, the system version and the app version.
- A random identifier Firebase creates for each installation of the app.
They never receive a stream or playlist address, a username, a password, a source’s name, a title you watched or searched for, or anything else you type. This data is not linked to your identity, is not used for advertising and is not used to track you across other companies’ apps or websites. Google processes it under the Firebase privacy terms. max has no setting to turn this off yet.
Services max contacts for you
max talks to other services directly from your device. Each receives your IP address, as any internet request does, and is covered by its own privacy policy.
Your sources
The playlist hosts, Xtream Codes servers and Plex, Jellyfin, Emby or Silo servers you add receive the login you entered and the User-Agent you chose. max asks to use your local network only to reach servers you keep there. Plex sign-in happens on plex.tv with a code, so max never sees your Plex password.
To fill in pictures and details
- TMDB receives the titles and years of films and shows in your sources, to return posters, cast and descriptions.
- TheTVDB receives the names of series in the guide, to return pictures for it.
- BetterPosters receives the IMDb ids of titles, to return posters.
- Trakt receives a title’s ids, to return its public ratings and reviews.
- TheIntroDB and IntroDB receive a title’s ids, season and episode, to return when its intro, recap and credits play.
- iptv-org provides a public directory of channel logos, which max downloads to find logos for channels that have none.
Only when you connect them
- Trakt and Simkl receive the films and episodes you finish, or mark as unwatched, and send back what you have watched; Trakt also sends back the titles you paused. Signing in to Trakt passes through a page of ours hosted on GitHub Pages.
- OpenSubtitles receives your OpenSubtitles login and the title and language you search for.
- YouTube opens when you choose a trailer, in its own app or website.
The TestFlight beta
While max is in beta it is installed through Apple’s TestFlight. Apple may share with us the crash logs and the feedback you choose to send through TestFlight, as described in Apple’s TestFlight terms.
This website
This website sets no cookies and runs no analytics. Its fonts, pictures and scripts are served from this site; film pictures come from TMDB and are copied here, so your browser never contacts TMDB. The company hosting the site may keep standard server logs, such as IP addresses, for security. The beta link takes you to Apple’s TestFlight site.
What max does not do
- It does not sell, rent or share your data for advertising.
- It does not ask for your contacts, location, camera or microphone.
- It does not have an account with us, so there is nothing about you on our side to delete.
Children
max is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect information about them.

Terms of use
A player, not a provider
max is a media player. It does not provide, host, sell or recommend channels, playlists or content. You are responsible for making sure you have the right to access every source you add, and for following the terms of your provider.
Licence
Once max is on the App Store, it is licensed to you under Apple’s Standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement. While it is in beta, Apple’s TestFlight terms apply as well.
Beta software
Beta builds are unfinished. They may have bugs, lose settings or stop working when a build expires. Keep your provider’s details somewhere other than max.
Other services
Pictures, details, ratings, reviews and subtitles come from the services named in the privacy policy above. Their terms apply to them, and max cannot promise that what they return is accurate. Film and show data is provided by TMDB; max uses the TMDB API but is not endorsed or certified by TMDB.
No warranty
max is provided as it is, without warranties of any kind, to the extent the law allows. To the same extent, max is not liable for losses arising from your use of the app or of the sources you add.
Changes
These terms may change as max does. The date at the top says when they last did.
